Happy Friday, peeps! Today, I’m not doing a post from own my personal wardrobe, but instead from my mother Bernise. If you been reading any of my previous posts this past year you will notice that I mention my mom a lot on this blog. The reason for this is that I live with her because I am co-parenting my four nieces and my nephew and to make it more convenient for everyone I live at home. However, my mother and I have always been very close, and I am lucky enough to count my mom as one of best friends.
My mother is a retired Certified Nurse’s Assistant. In the beginning, my mother was a single parent working herself to death in nursing homes to support me and my two younger sisters. And when I was younger she would spend most of her money on her children and practically none for herself. Then it all changed once she unofficially retired, and was able to afford to have bariatric weight loss surgery.
It was a long drawn out process, but after the surgery, my mother felt comfortable enough in her own body now to start buying clothing for herself. So, as a someone who both loves clothes and fashion, we would both geek out over our clothing finds. And then I created the blog, and my mother was very supportive and even allowed me to borrow from extensive jewelry collection and wig collection.
in all of my previous “Gig’s Corner” posts, almost all of my jewelry pieces have come from her collection. Not only that, I would often ask her opinions and ideas on outfits. This happened so much that I then decided that since she was contributing so much to blog that I would give her own corner of it.
As for this outfit, I just love the colors and the way she put all of the items together. I especially loved her very comfy brown woolen cardigan. I am a huge fan of how the cardigan ties at waist, which really emphasizes my mother’s fantastic waistline. Underneath, there is a fantastic inverse leopard print blouse. It’s a thrift store find, but it’s such an unusual piece. To match the shirt, my mother paired it with just a simple pair of tan leggings, that I know from my own experience that is both comfy and versatile.
The whole outfit really made me think of Autumn, even though this outfit was taken in Early December. As you guys know, Autumn is my favorite time of year. I just adore the colors of that particular season and I especially love how the color brown looks on black women. If you are a black woman, depending on your shade of your skin, the color of brown can really make your skin pop!
Finally, are the brown fleece lined boots! I am such a fan of these boots, and they are totally my favorite item out of my mother’s outfit. The boots definitely make this outfit stand out. I especially a huge fan of the buckles, on the top. My mother got these pair of boots at the PX, the military store on base.
My step-father Bruce is a retired army veteran, so of course, as an army wife, she gets all types of benefits. I’m so jealous, at the all the good deals she gets at the PX.
Anyway, this is my mother’s casual outfit for Autumn. What do you think? Love it or hate it? Let me know down in the comments!
P.S. I forgot when I originally posted this that today is my mother’s 56th birthday. Happy Birthday to the greatest, kindest, smartest mother I can ever have!
